It was a HUGE pleasure sharing my personal story and reasons for setting up Project Shine, with Life Transformation Coach, Amelia from Coaching Curve
You can check out the link to the interview on her Blog here
Or watch the interview below, I would LOVE to hear your thoughts, feel free to share and leave a comment :-)
Project Shine has had the HUGE pleasure of introducing Hoop Yoga into our BE ME programme ran by our Hoop Yoga expert Gloria Tong. It is a unique combination of traditional Yogic postures and Hooping.
Using the Hoop, especially in Yoga, can help to loose your inhibitions, build inner confidence, connect to your body but most importantly ...have a huge amount of FUN! It perfectly encompasses the fundamental values of Project Shine, which is why we are so excited about working with Gloria.
So far we have ran 2 sessions, one at The Shak and one for the Holiday programme ran by Leichhardt Council. Both have been a huge success with the girls and we are hoping to make this session a permanent part of our BE ME programme. We offer the option of a Hoop Yoga Class and Hoop Yoga Workshop (which includes making your own hoop to take home) For more information contact Project Shine directly.

Sam Smith swept up at this years Grammys......but along with his music it was also his humbling speech that makes you love him more
At a ripe old age of 22, the British newcomer, Sam Smith has swept up 4, well deserved Grammys at this Years Awards.
It was during his acceptance speech for 'Best Pop Vocal Album' that he shared some truly inspiring words about self love.
"Thank you so much. I just want to say that before we made this record, I was doing everything to try and get my music heard. I tried to lose weight and I was making awful music. It was only until I started to be myself that the music started to flow and people started to listen. So, thank you guys for accepting me for being different."
It just proves, no matter what your worldly status is, the success or money that you have, we all have self doubt. It is only by being ourselves, that we can really create doorways for our success. See the full video as reported by Hollywood Reporter, by clicking the link below.
Just a little something special to brighten up your day.
I've just read a post on Facebook from the amazing artist, Sam Smith. Just goes to show we are not alone when we have our down days, when we don't believe in ourself or we don't feel good enough. A beautiful note from father to son, but deep sentiments we should all keep and a strong message I want to encourage with Project Shine. You are a flower!
"My dad just sent a book to my dressing room at Madison square with a book stop at this page. I was told to read this page and only this page. After crying like a baby, it made me think; after years of struggling and wanting to be everyone but myself, it was the day I decided to be me that things started to work. I am performing tonight at Madison square garden in front of thousands of people and I haven't had to sacrifice the way I want to dress, the way I want to sing, the way my stage looks, my sad days, my happy days, my weight, my crooked teeth or my hairy chest. I am performing tonight as myself. And tonight is my chance to thank you all for accepting me as just that. I love you all xx"

"Why fit in when you were born to stand out"
One of my biggest dreams was to stand naked on a hill top, (let me finish before you think I'm crazy) with my arms spread wide like wings, my eyes closed and my head to the sky. Just so that I could feel that sense of not caring anymore. Feeling totally free and totally liberated. But I know that it doesn't take me actually doing that to unburden myself and allow myself to be free not to care. That just comes from me and how I chose to live. I am almost sure there are other people out there who feel the same way. That just for a day, we didn't have to care. Care about what we look like, about what we are doing or not doing and care about what others think of us.
But as the image above shows and what I grew to realise was, the reflection we see in the mirror and the vision we hold of ourself rarely fits with the visions and opinions that others hold of us. Our so called burdens are the flaws that we see, we criticise our imperfections and we find it hard to accept ourselves. It isn't always others that think this. Yet the peace we all seek lies in that self acceptance.
Pretty hard to do in the world where we are surrounded by photoshopped images of beautiful people, with perfect skin and perfect bodies right? The challenges we all face to be "perfect" seems to be getting more and more and the lengths people are going to, to reach that unrealistic goal are getting more and more dramatic.
I recently read a fairly disturbing article written on theguardian.com about the mental health issues of women. It states that " Women are up to 40% more likely than men to develop mental health conditions, according to new analysis by a clinical psychologist at Oxford University" The full article and research can be seen at the link below:
It made me ask the question why? Why is it that we are suffering in the first place? It made me think about our wonderful new western world, with its fabulous technologies and computerised versions of humans. And then the pressures this puts on all of us, not just women, but everyone. We have to look our best, but also achieve our highest goals and we have to be the best wife or be the best parent all at the same time! How can we maintain all these ideals and still remain happy or mentally stable? What if we can't, are we a failure? I know from my own experience, juggling so many balls does have an effect on your mental and physical well being. Maybe that's why I want to stand naked on a hill top?! What ever the reason, I believe something has to change.
As Dr.Seuss says, "Why fit in when you were born to stand out".
There are many other advocates out there that are challenging the Media construction of beauty and success and just one that I came across recently was this beautiful video directed by Melissa King at http://www.myheartdances.com (watch the clip at the bottom) It is an open and frank discussion by women about how they feel about themselves and the issues surrouding photoshop. They reveal their true self with no makeup, no hair styling and minimal clothing. I think the women involved seemed to embrace the experience despite their own self doubt and hopefully its inspiring to anyone who is feeling less than "perfect".
So why should we spend all that time and money on making ourselves "better" when we could be spending it on enjoying our life instead? What would our world look like if we did that?
I decided to look at the money and time I spend on skin care, anti ageing products, keeping fit (which isn't too excessive at the moment due to being one wage family) and see what else I could do with that money. Could I take a holiday I have always wanted or any other experience I would tick from my bucket list? Why don't you try just for one month, to utilise that time and energy in a different way and see how you feel? We only get one shot at this life and we want to make it a good one, remind yourself why you were "born to stand out"
Author Amie Morris for Project Shine
I was recently sent this music video by a Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter called Colbie Caillat. This is the lead track "Try" from her album Gypsy Heart Side.
It's such a beautiful example of my mission here with Project Shine.
Before I teach any class, I strip everything back and help my students to see their true self, their true nature and fall in love with that. What we build on after that through new skills to enhance the outer self, is really just to help you reflect your inner self and present yourself for who you want to be. What shines out of us and what people feel about us, is far more beautiful than what people see.
When I watched this, It touched my heart and made me proud to be a woman and proud to be my true self. It encourages you to experience that sense of freedom by taking off something we use everyday to mask ourselves. So "try" it yourself, strip away all the ways you adorn yourself and be proud to be yourself. Celebrate it. Enjoy this clip and let me know your thoughts.
How do you see yourself ? Is the image bright and positive? Or dull and negative? Are you beautiful or ugly? How do you think other people see you?
This video is an amazing reflection of how we see ourselves and how other people see us. The results are very different from what we believe to be true. Is it time we stopped this inner negative voice that we all have? We wouldn't talk to other people the way we speak to ourselves, so why should we treat ourselves in this way?
Take 3 minutes to watch this Dove advert. And take a further 3 minutes to speak to yourself in a positive way, appreciating all your amazing qualities and true beauty. Nothing negative or anything you wish you could change, just all the things that you like about yourself. Things you like about your physical self and things you like about who you are, your traits your qualities. Write it down and keep it by your bed. Take a further 3 minutes every morning to read over what your notes and see how different you look when you glance in the mirror. You will notice change. You will start to see yourself through the eyes of others.
3 minutes in 24 hours is not much to give to yourself. Do it today!

"Your inner strength is your outer foundation"
I get asked all kinds of questions about Makeup, but one main question is about choosing the right foundation.
It's ironic I came across this quote today after a client asked me that every question. And I love this quote on so many levels. Choosing a foundation in makeup is one of the most important aspects of a Makeup routine. Without that you have nothing to work on, nothing to build on to create the finishing look and if the foundation isn't built up properly, the rest of the makeup will slip right off. It's the same as building a house, the foundations are what make it strong and long lasting.
The same goes for our beauty in general. If we don't have a healthy inner self, if we don't build that foundation from the inside out, that strength of character and sense of self. What do we have on the outside to work with? Our beauty comes from within and it provides us with a solid foundation for us to express our outer self and beauty with confidence an with conviction.
Think about that, the next time you try to wear a lip colour to hide your low emotions.
Just some inspiration for today : Lets work on our inner selves, lets love and appreciate ourselves, the rest will take care of its self and your true self will SHINE out of you like a light bulb in the dark.
I was glad to read that she recently said "I'm never going to starve myself for a part. I don't want little girls to be like, "oh I want to look like Katniss so I'm going to skip dinner".
It's important that the Media uses it's power to enhance peoples lives not destroy them and by having a positive role model like Jennifer Lawrence I hope that young girls and women find solace in her words.
For a very long time now, I have been wanting to not only explore my own inner self more, but also have the skills to teach that to others. I wanted to encompass this in Project SHINE because I do believe that whilst the skills I can teach to enhance your physical being can be life changing for some, I always put the focus on loving your self and letting your true self shine, because that is what people are most attracted to and that is where true peace and happiness lay.
So I have embarked on a journey to learn to be a Yoga Teacher. Yoga is not just a great physical exercise, it is a way of life. It is the only physical activity I have ever done that allows me to connect fully with myself, listen to my body and control my mind.
It's a proven tool to improve both physical and mental health and I would love for you to follow my personal journey by visiting my Blog:
